This essay seeks to determine the profile of today’s professors, considered by the authors tobe the professor’s face. The analysis takes up again the concept of paideia, or educator’s socialfunction, with consideration to pedagogic theories and context interpretation. From thisperspective, pedagogic activity is considered a dialogic cultural practice, conscious and reflexive,which allows the student to determine how useful and significant knowledge is. Thus,education becomes a forum whose protagonists –teachers and students- construct better lifeconditions for a society that calls for individuals capable of understanding and interpretingthe world from an integral, critical vision that is committed to social change
