The authors, of obligatory reference in any of the aspects that deal with the Afro-Colombian ethnic group, show in this compilation an indisputable contribution in each of the topics gathered in this edition, which is a great success of the Center for Social Studies - CES - from the National University of Colombia and ICANH.

This reference is an invitation to its knowledge and dissemination in all areas related to Afro-Colombia, being studies done on the Pacific from the profuse work of various authors and scholars, who from the 80s and even more from the Constitution 91, have worked on the Pacific population. It is necessary to highlight the neglect regarding the Caribbean Coast, where they have forgotten the responsibility both with the ethnic group and with the due contribution to the history and knowledge of the country, leaving it without continuation from the meritorious works published by scholars such as Orlando Fals Borda, Nina de Friedemann, Aquiles Escalante and others who referred to the more than a million and a half Afro-Colombians from Córdoba, Sucre, Bolívar and Magdalena already marginalized, in very clear contrast with the notable “expansion of their musical expressions within and outside the country ». Scholarly attention to the Pacific coast has been presented differently, and this despite (or perhaps for the same reason?) The solid and influential presence of the "fourth power" (Caribbean politicians) in the administration and usufruct of all the areas in which the different traditional parties have a presence. There is therefore a great void in this regard.
