After 26 years of research about the life and work of the Colombian writer Gustavo Álvarez Gardeazábal (Tuluá, 1845), Jonathan Tittler presents us with his book El verbo y elmand. Life and miracles of Gustavo Álvarez Gardeazábal (2005), which adds to a wide range of articles of literary criticism, to his famous text Ironía narrativa en la novela hispanoamericana contemporanea (1990) and to his role as editor in Literature and violence in Colombia (1990) and Manuel Puig (1993). Although Jonathan Tittler's life has unfolded between administrative positions, interdisciplinary work and chairs, it squeezes time and offers investigative fruits, like the book we present. We start from the fact that Tittler met and visited Álvarez Gardeazábal in Colombia, and shared several academic exercises with him in the United States.
