The Cerro de Santa Lucía is an emblematic point of the city of Santiago and perhaps of the Chilean society itself. The post of the colonial era, from which the city was watched and defended, was transformed in the 19th century, under European architectural references, into a family walk, with paths and small breaks for leisure and contemplation. Even today it is presented to tourists as a picturesque place in the city, with its castle, fountains and viewpoints, very suitable for a quiet afternoon stroll. But as it happens with many points of the geography of the cities, the Hill has more than one use and a place in the imaginary ones. It is also a benchmark for the inhabitants of the night, a meeting point for couples of young lovers, a space for socialization of some urban youth cultures and a benchmark for dating and enjoyment. Perhaps due to this combination of outdoor space and intimacy, between everyone's and nobody's place at the same time, between the family daytime and the transgressive nightlife, the place has also been a territory of homosexual socialization.
