Colombia, defined as the Social State of Law by the Political Constitution of 1991, is one of the countries with the most advanced regulations on sexual and reproductive rights (DSR) in Latin America, including among its advances the jurisprudential recognition of economic rights for same-sex couples and decriminalization of abortion in special cases. However, there is a significant distance between the ideal scenario posed by legal regulation and the national reality that it faces, given that when implementing the majority of the rules that guarantee the enjoyment of such rights, a number of obstacles arise, that show the strong tension that persists between a legal system that seeks to guarantee citizens' rights and freedoms and a socially preeminently conservative and religious structure, the latter tending to preserve Christian moral values, a heterosexual and patriarchal family institution, as well as gender roles traditional that perpetuate inequality between men and women. This is the main approach of the book reviewed, which was prepared by an interdisciplinary team of professionals from the National University of Colombia convened by the Latin American Center for Sexuality and Human Rights (CLAM), to develop an ambitious academic project that combines the analytical perspectives of their own of sociology, law and political science.
